Sell Scentsy? No, Share Scentsy!

I’m not a sales person!

Perfect! You shouldn’t have to Sell Scentsy. We don’t! I never tell anyone what I do unless they ask me – to which I nonchalantly respond, “I have a candle company!” which then generates more questions about my business.

I do give people free samples (when my business comes up) and bring my Scent-A-Peel Cards (kind of like a scratch and sniff pack of 20 of our Favorite Scents) for people to smell. We do have a Scentsy Vinyl advertisement on the back of my car and…I do wear my Scentsy shirts all the time – which also generate questions. My husband even puts our business card magnets…everywhere!

We also blog online (just like this post), post occasionally on Facebook and we even Tweet on Twitter! We don’t pay for any advertising online or in print.

I do offer to let people have Home or Basket parties – if they want – with no pressure. I let people know that we do fundraisers and offer donations of our Scentsy products to various causes. People ASK to have parties – really!

We, my hubby and kids, were at QFC 2 weeks ago checking out and our Checker, Gloria, asked if we were the Scentsy people. We said yes (I was wearing one of my shirts at the time conveniently) and she asked us if she could have a party this month! I dropped a Basket Party bag off to her the next day!

I think we do well because we aren’t pushy but we aren’t shy about our Scentsy business either.  I get to work from home and make my own schedule because of the way we run our business.

Wendy – you are an ideal Scentsy consultant in my opinion! You’ve never pushed me to buy and you’ve always answered my questions and concerns in a timely manner. I appreciate your Scentsy “selling” style and that’s what keeps me buying from you:)

I have thought about selling/ sharing Scentsy. Just not sure if I have contact with enough people locally to actually get it going. Hmmm. I think it’s cool you aren’t pushy w/ it. And by the way, I read your “about me” story & I think you & Shawn rock! I have been where ya’ll were & I am proud of how you stuck together through it. 🙂

Thank you SO much for this post! I’ve been seriously considering selling but I’ve been worried that my laid back approach wouldn’t sell as much as the pushy approach. I’m relieved to hear that it works for you! Thanks again!

What ^ said. Love this post as well. I entered to win the monthly drawing, would you guys consider putting that $50 toward to the kit instead of the items? Would that work?? 🙂 thanks for this site, it is very informative!

    • Hi Amber. I wish we could apply money towards a starter kit but we aren’t allowed to. You could have a basket party and make it a goal to get to at least $500 in sales. If you do, you could sign up and we could put your party under YOU as your first commissionable party and your commssions would be at least $100 with a $500 party. It’s also a great way to see how well you can sell the products before you commit to joining. Let me know if you’re interested in having a basket party! Wendy

So when you sign up do you get to pick out the styles you like for the demonstration products ? Or is just a standered
all ready put together kit? For example, could you request the frog scentsy buddy instead of the piggy ? That is alot of stuff either way.

I have been seriously considering selling scentsy and LOVE the approach you are taking! Its nice to know that it sells ITSELF!!
Thank you for sharing this with us!!

I love how you say “we aren’t pushy but we aren’t shy”. I know this product sells itself, since I am so addicted!! lol. The only thing holding me back from becoming a consultant is the time (how much time did you spend at the start? and now?) and the stigma (?? maybe not the right word) of becoming a consultant for a business, where ppl know your goal is to ultimately sell them something. I guess I’m just not quite ready to throw myself into selling! My kiddos keep me quite busy (one is 3 months, so my outlook may change once he’s sleeping through the night!!!) Thanks for the feedback on being a Scentsy consultant.

    • Hi Shellie, Thanks! I don’t find any stigma attached to a business opportunity – the way we do it. Some people drive their friends and family crazy trying to sell to them and get them to join whatever business their involved with. We simply don’t do that. My friends don’t have parties and I don’t ask them. I don’t tell them about Scentsy unless they ask me about it but I do give my friends freebies and samples when certain scents come in that I know they’d like since they are good sources of referrals to me. They all know what I do and if they are interested in joining they’ll ask me about it. It’s like with any business… knowing how to approach people and how to read them is key. Most people work Scentsy part-time and that’s the best way to work it in the beginning. We didn’t spend a lot of time working the business in the beginning but, as our team grew we did have to put more time into it. I work the business full time but that doesn’t mean that I’m working it 24/7. I take calls when I’m not at my kids school volunteering, I do laundry while chatting with consultants, go out to lunch with my friends and call someone back in the car, etc. I do put in a lot of time but I also have a ton of flexibility. Thanks for the great questions! Wendy

Great post! I’m not a seller either and Scentsy seems to sell itself. Nice that you can host your own party and then put that party towards your own sales if you sign up.
    Thanks for the info!
